Question: Elizabeth Bateman is listed as wife of both Joseph Wrights. No doubt only one is correct and I believe it to be the second family above. I would appreciate any information or documentation or what ever on Elizabeth Bateman. What we have may be correct and that they are two different women. "Wright Family of Woburn, Mass, NEHGR Vol XVIII (Jan 1883) Joseph Wright, died 19 Sep 1732. He m. 1st Elizabeth Bateman, 7 Jul 1692. They had three
known children. She died after 11 Apr 1699 (birth of Mousal). He married 2nd Ruth ________,
who died 18 Feb 1716/7, age 60. No known children of this marriage. He married 3rd, Rachel
Brooks, 19 Nov 1729, who who as widow of Joseph, died 21 Jun 1750, age 55. "Marriage Records Before 1699" - m. 7 Jul 1692, Charleston, MA NEHGR Vol. XXXVIII, Jan 1883, pp. 76-83. Administration on the estate of Joseph Wright, of Woburn, in 1732, names Rachel Wright, the widow, and Rachel, a minor child; Mousal Wright, "only son of deceased;" Samuel Wood and wife Elizabeth, a daughter; Thomas Belknap and wife Sarah, a daughter. The sons-in-law, Wood and Belknap, represented to the court that "said deceased left issue by several wives, namely, the before named two daughters, and a son thirty years of age (a non-compos) by a first venture, and a daughter about two years old by another," -that of Rachel, widow. Jacob Wright, of Woburn, brother to Joseph, was guardian of Rachel Wright, the minor. Don Wright - Webmaster ![]() |
