Special Note After many months of turmoil, a bad computer, lost hard drive, then setting up a
whole new system, and many hours of searching old files, I was able to get back to being able to
add a number of pages to this research center. Then, I made the move from my old web site to
the new "Domain". That proved to be a disaster, and I lost or miss filed many pages. Again, I
have revamped the Cheves, McLain and Stallings Research Centers in a small way to help you
navigate the pages. Hopefully, we can get these pages up and running again. I have added a
place where you can contact me directly (at the bottom of the screen) to add new information,
and we have also added a new page to submit queries. This is a special Queries
Page, set up for the above families only, so you don't have to sift through a bunch of notes to find
one that may interest you. A regular queries page is still available.
We have added a connection to the Harvey Census Records. These census records
began with the Harvey Family, but as we found them, we have added Cheves and McLain
records. We have yet to find or receive any records from the Stallings line. If you have census
records that you would like to add, feel free to do so. When adding them, please use as much
information as possible, such as town, county, page number, etc. The more you add, the easier it
is for others to locate them if they want to find the records themselves for their own
documentation.
Since the Cheves, McLain and Stallings Families are inter-related on my database, I
am working on the three files at the same time. Although the Harvey family is included in this
group, it has been completed and brought up to date. However we will add to it if we find more.
As an example, one page that I had prepared on the McLain Pages, was lost.
However, since the file was sent to me on disk (thanks to Edith Knott), I am able to reproduce the
page. (That page is in process of being rebuilt) The file is large enough to make it a number of
pages and will be on line soon. A number of other pages have been found and will be presented
soon also.
We have another file on the Stallings Family that Sue just finished typing. This is a
history of the Stallings family submitted by Ken Stallings. That page is being coded and will be on
line soon.
Most of the files on the Cheves family were lost. They are the files that are taking a
long time to reconstruct, but we are working on them.
Please forgive the mess I have gotten this into. I have also added a photo to show
you my messy desk where I am trying to find old files from the old computer (that runs when it
wants to). See Photo. In the background at the left end of my
desk, you will see the shelving where I now file all the messages for each of the Family Lines we
are working on. So, if I loose it from the computer, I still have a hard copy of the data submitted.
Someday, this desk will be clean!!!! When??
One last but IMPORTANT note. If you have book
marked any of our pages for quick entry, you should also BOOK MARK our home page, as our
pages may be relocated at any time.
