My grandfather Zenjuro Kanda was in Hawaii in the late 1800's and then in the US.
I found him on a 1910 Census in Delta, Colorado.
Sometime between then and 1920 he went back to Japan, married my grandmother
Chika Kawamoto in April 1920 and they both arrived in Seattle, Washington in July
1920. From there they traveled to Minnesota where my Aunt Kiyoko was born.
Winters were too cold so they moved to Delta, Colorado between June 1922 and
November 1923. My Uncle Motoyuki and my dad, Jimmie, were both born in Delta.
In the mid 1930's my grandparents moved the family to Grand Junction, Colorado.
I am researching my Japanese family but it is difficult because my grandfather
was supposedly adopted to keep a family name from dying out and I have no specific
information on what his original name was [Inouye I believe], or what the
relationship of the family adopting him was to his own original family.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed from here. Would like
to talk and compare notes with others. Looking forward to hearing from you.
