Olive E Morse
of Medina County, Ohio

©   Compiled by: Don Wright

Received from Jane Orne
Olive E Morse was married to a Protsman.   On the 1860 Wisconsin Census she is listed with a William Protsman, he was 27 years older than her, but I think this was her husband.   The 1860 census it does not list relationsip though. I have also seen this name spelled Protzman, Prutsman, Prutzman, and Brotzman.   This family sometimes went by their middle names and not their first names, so I do not know for sure that he was William, he could have been a John, because somewhere I got the name of William John Prostman for him.   But, the little that I have found has him usually listed as William.   I assume they were married in Ohio.

Their first child, Melissa was born in Ohio in about 1854.   Then they moved to Wisconsin.   I have the records from the time they were in Wisconsin until they died, but I have nothing from Ohio.   Their next children, Willard and William were born in Wisconsin about Dec of 1856.   On the 1860 Wisconsin Census Wiliam protsman is listed as 55 years old, born in Pennsylvania.   He died before 1868.   I do not know if William was in Ohio in 1850 or stil in Pennsylvania.   Also at that age he could have been married to someone else before Olive.   Does Ohio have an 1855 census record that may have them listed before they came to Wisconsin.   He would have been in his 20s by 1830 and should be listed somewhere on that census and the 1840 census.   I hope this will help in finding him or a marriage record for Olive.

Note: So far, We have found only three Census Records that lists the Protsman Family.

The Olive who married Protsmans were among the earliest settlers of Ferryville, Crawford Co, WI.   They were the parents of twin sons, William and Willard, the twins later settled in Alamakee Co, Iowa.   Supposedly William died by falling off a raft in the Mississippi River about 1890/91.   There was a Willard Cornelius Protsman, b. 8-14-1885 Lansing, Alamakee, Iowa - Died 2-23-1960, LaCross, WI; buried in Lansing.
