Most of the descendants of Robert Daniel of Cambridge resided in the vicinity during our eary history, and the generations are here reckoned from him. He was no doubt born around the turn of the century. Robert came to this country from Chesshire, England prior to 1636 and settled in Watertown, MA. He was a grantee of 5 lots and purchased the "Homestead of Nicholas Jacobs", consisting of 13 Acres of land situated not far from the present site of the U.A. Arsenal. He was admitted Freeman on 14 Mar 1639 in Watertown. He moved in 1651 to Cambridge, MA, and died there 6 Jul 1655. He married (1st) Elizabeth Morse, bp 6 Mar 1605, Redgrave, Suffolk, England. She was a sister of the Pioneer Samuel Morse. She died 2 Oct 1643, leaving a daughter Elizabeth, born 1633, who was probably the Elizabeth Daniel age 2 years who accompanied the Morse family [Samuel Morse and his wife] on the "Increase" in 1635. Children of this marriage:

    1. Elizabeth m. Thomas Fanning.

    2. Samuel; m. Mercy Grant of Watertown, in 1671, and had at least five children.

    3. Joseph; m. Mary Fairbanks, their house was burned by the Indians in 1676. He served 3 years as selectman of Medfield, and in 1700 kept school on the west side. His wife Mary died, and he married 2nd Rachel Sheffield, who died 1687. Joseph married 3rd, Lydia Adams widow of James Allen. Joseph had 11 children and died in 1715.

    5. Mary; born 1642; married in 1666 Samson Frairy, was slain by Indians at or near Deerfield in 1704. Robert married (2nd) Rina Andrews after he moved to Cambridge.
