Richardus Cornell
Son of Jacob, Grandson of Thomas

Richardus Cornell came to Dutchess County from Long Island about the middle of the eighteenth century and is said to have owned and occupied the farm where the Burial Ground is located. By 1914 this burial ground was overgrown and deserted. It is located one mile north of Poughquag.

He married on 31 Dec 1731, Elizabeth Cornell (a 1st cousin). Records of St George's Church, Hempstead, LI, indicate both of Oyster Bay. (see record of Wills, Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co, NY, Book B:254). He was of Oyster Bay, LI at time of marriage in 1731. Between that time and 1767 when a vestryman of Christ Church, Beekman, he went to Beekman, Dutchess County and is buried in the family plot of his farm there 13 Sep 1794. His will is dated 11 Sep 1801, proved 1801, wife not named)

Note: Date and burial (13 Sep 1794) and date of will (11 Sep 1801) do not make sense. (Buried 7 years before the date of will?????)
