527. William Wright (b. in Fauquier Co., Va., ca. 1759/63; moved to Southampton Co.,
Va., ca. 1775-1780; m. [1st, on March 2, 1786] Ann [Blunt] Drew [b. 1765]; moved
ca. 1808-1809 to Northampton Co., N.C., where he m. [2nd] a widow, Mary Eaton or Davis]
Jones [identified by Lewis as daughter of William and Mary [Brown] Eaton, but
identified by Ritchie as the daughter of William Richardson Davis (Gov., N.C., 1798-1799),
and the widow of Gen. Allen Jones of “Mount Gallant”]; m. in Greensville Co., Va.
[3rd] Martha R. Crump; he d. in Greensville Co., Va., 1827).

4:78, proved 5/7/1827) among other documents; RITCHIE, 72-74, who also lists
without further comment, as three additional children of William Wright

1617. Mary Wright (b. ca. 1787; m. [1801] Thomas Ridley II [b. Nov. 8, 1778. In
1809 he
purchased the plantation “Rock Spring” from his wife’s uncle, John Wright,
although the will of his father, Thomas Ridley I, makes clear that the elder
Ridley put up the money for the purchase. Styled “Maj. Thomas Ridley,”
Thomas II is said to have commanded a cavalry co. in the War of 1812, and he
d. Dec. 10, 1839. His father, Thomas I, was a maj. of the 10th, later the
6th Va. Regt., in the Continental Army during the Rev. War]; she d. Feb. 4,
1815).

Louisa Williamson [sister of Dr. James Williamson of Caswell Co.]; James

1621. Martha Williams Wright (b. ca. 1814; m. [1832] John Mason Moody [b. 1809;
member of the N.C. state legislature and the state secession convention
of 1861. His ancestors were among the early settlers of N.C., and their
original land-grant from King George II was passed down to his daughter,
Martha. We catch a brief glimpse of John and his family in a history of
the First Battn., 1st Regt. of Jr. Reserves, a N.C. regt. comprised largely
of 17-year-boys who soon went into battle as the 70th N.C. Inf., CSA:
On the 29th [May, 1864] the battalion was ordered to Weldon, where it went
into camp on the Norothampton side of the river … near the residence of
Mr. John M. Moody, who with his entire family was as kind and considerate
of the soldier boys as it was possible to be. Among the officers of this
unit was the youthful Maj. N. A. Gregory, who later m. John M. Moody’s
youngest daughter, Laura. It is tempting to believe that their romance was
first kindled during those early summers days of 1864]. They res. in
Northampton Co., N.C.; Martha [Wright] Moody d. 1885).
