He moved by 1866, with his brother John, his sister Abby Jane and her husband, John Clancy Denton, to Ottawa, LaSalle County, Illinois. Some time after Charles's marriage, his sister Abby Jane and her husband went West, then return to Remington, IN, where John died in a prairie fire. Abby Jane and the children return to NY. Charles and Alidia remained in LaSalle Co for the rest of their lives, living in Farm Ridge, Streator and Ottawa. Lidia died 15 Apr 1923 and Charles three years later on 12 Mar 1926. Charles and Lidia had a total of 11 children, 2 having died in infancy. Charles Henry Scidmore was born 24 Dec 1842, East Line, Malta Township, Saratoga County, New York, the fifth of seven children. (All were born in the same area.) When his sister Abby Jane and her husband Clancy Denton made plans for moving West, John and his brother Charles were not to be left behind, and by 1866 they had all moved by covered wagon westward and settled near Ottawa, LaSalle Co, IL. John and his brother Charlie took up a farm there as did Abby Jane and her husband John Clancy Denton.

There he met and married Lidia A Lampman on 25 Dec 1867, Lidia's 21st birthday. Lidia was born 25 Dec 1846, Bennington, Bennington Co, VT, the daughter of Stephen V Lampman and Sarah Wright. Lidia's parents were born and lived Hoosick, Rensselaer Co, NY, within 50 miles of Charles' birth place.

Charles' sister Abby Jane and her husband John Clancy Denton purchased a farm and remained there until after the birth of their third child Bertha on 25 December 1868. They headed West shortly afterward, but then turned about and returned as far as Remington Indiana.   See John Clancy Denton. (See "Footprints" Vol 2, No. 3, page 43 and Vol 3, No. 1, page 27).

Charles' brother John Scidmore married Mary E. Taylor and also went west, 1st to Jasper Co, MO (1870 Census) and then to Page Co, IA. There he remained until his death.

Charles purchased a farm and settled in Grand Ridge, LaSalle County near Ottawa, IL. Charles and Lidia raised a large family in Farm Ridge, Streator and Ottawa and remained in LaSalle Co the rest of their life.
