Berne Historical Project -
Darin Flansburgh, Barbara Bolster-Barret, Harold Miller and Ralph Miller, are planning a project
to identify every person on the Beer's 1866 map of Berne, Albany Co, NY, and write a biography
of that person that would include ancestors and children. The biography would be accessed by
clicking on the persons name on the map. Likewise by clicking on the grid number you would be
taken to a history of the lot: the earliest settler, who he passed it to his family, the earliest Van
Rensselaer lease, who was living on it according to the 1787 Van Rensselaer lease map,
subsequent lease holders, who was living on it according to the 1854 map of Berne, and who was
on it in 1866. We'll carry it as far as we can.
The objective is to make this information available to all genealogists and researchers. They
would like to have a computer available at the Berne Historical Society so visitors can check out
their ancestors; as well as the families who previously lived on the farm or in the house where they
are currently living.

They want the information also to be available to historical societies in Knox, Westerlo,
Rensselaerville, Middleburg and Schoharie. Darin is a computer programmer; and he will be
writing the software for the project.
They also would like to have a database with a genealogy for all Berne Families. Thus
historical society visitors wiell be able to find their ancestors. As most of you know, this is
something that has been Ralph's ambition for many years. He is the Town of Berne Historian. He
started his database over ten years ago, and works on expanding it daily, using church and town
records. Hal has been helping him lately searching for the earliest settlers where the church
records were recorded in Schoharie. He is also finding much information on the German, Dutch
and Swiss ancestors of the early settlers.

Darin indicated that his map was not the best in quality to use, but at least you will get an
idea of what is planned. To see the map go to:
