By: Don Wright 1. As many of you know, I have limited knowledge of basic code for
the building web pages and how to use that code. Once in a while I may pick
up something new to add to my small list of codes. 2. I have limited knowledge of computers also. For many years I
had no problem keeping up with some of the new items and ideas, but in the
past few years, it has been hard for me to understand all the new things coming out.
You can't always "Teach and Old Dog new tricks". 3. There are times when something new happens and I just can't figure it out. Every week or so, I receive an upgrade from MicroSoft on my XP. It is automaticaly installed. Recently one of the upgrades made changes in my computer. It has taken me a couple of weeks to figure out what happened. How long it will take me to correct those changes I am not sure. The first damage I found (actually my daughter found it for me) was in my Word Perfect program. It increased the size to 300%, and knocked out it's ability to print. We finally figured out the size problem and reduced it to 100%. However, I still can't print from it. 4. The second major problem was that the upgrade changed the settings on how a web page is loaded and viewed on my monitor. All of my web pages were were changed when I viewed them both on line and off line. This past week I found that the upgrade had changed my Display Settings and Text Size settings. I had never known that the display settings would change the way my Web Pages would look. After changing my display settings back to 1024x768 which is where my original settings were, things looked a little better. However I still had problems with the font size. They were either too large or too small. In playing around and checking everything I could find, I found a place where you can set the Web Page text file size. The text size can be set at one of 5 sizes (Largest, Larger, Medium, Smaller, and Smallest). My settings had been moved to "largest". I reset them to "Medium" and everything seems to be working right. 5. Changing the Screen Settings can create a problem in viewing some of your programs. I changed my Display settings to 1024x768, which is what I believe they were set at in the begining. and so far everything looks great, but created problems with my new Web Pages I had just created. However by changing my Text Size to medium and changing a few of the codes, I am back in buisness again. 6. Since finding out about the Text Sizes, I have made good use of it. Many times I find a web page that has printing so small that I can not read it without special glasses. Now all I have to do is change the Text Size and I can read them with no problem. This is something you can change at any time and comes in handy when cruzing the Internet. 7. In case you did not already know this, you should check it out. I am not sure how to do it for Netscape, but on Microsoft Explorer it is easy.
b. Scroll down to "Text Size". c. Move the mouse to the right side and you will find the five sizes. d. Remember the current size so you can return to the prefered size. e. Click on the size you desire and check your screen. 8. In the event the printing on these web pages are too small, then increase the the "Text Size". If the printing is too large, then decrease the 'Text Size". ![]() Please place in the Subject Line: WEBPAGE-HISTORY
